Here is a more realistic picture of Nani’s injury. His injury is not as bad as it seems from some other photos taking rounds on the internet. The cut may be deep in itself, but is certainly not very deep. Hopefully Nani will be back for the next match.

  6. Scouser Tone on March 6th, 2011 8:17 pm

Nani acted worse than Drogba did that time Johnny Evans esseentially kissed him at Stamford Bridge. Was plain embarassing to see a grown err ‘man’ crying with a little scrape on his leg. Poor tackle by carragher, but at least he never elbowed him, in the back of his head. Oh yes, it’s not like we’re the only team that gets away with stuff. I still fancy it was a yellow, adn Nani was trying so hard to milk the ref that he was willing to be subbed. Nice assist for the second goal too. Liverpool battered United today.

Football can do without fellas that cry whn they get hurt. You don’t even see that when a fella brakes his leg in a Sunday league match.

My God. The number of bitter, myophic Liverpool fans present on the internet that are unable to view situations objectively; its pathetic. It was a bad tackle by Carragher DEFINITELY, but somehow all these Liverpool fans seem to just gloss over this fact. Fair play to Carragher for going to Nani to apologize later, but if you were in Nani’s position and that tackle could potentially end your career, all you clowns wouldn’t take it so easy that’s for sure. A scratch? Sometimes its not about what’s been done, but what could have been. And for the record, this definitely was NOT just a “scratch”.

All you Liverpool fans with your arrogant comments, you are disgusting and no better than animals. Nani may have play-acted and dived in his career but he never left his stud marks in someone’s shins before did he? Its Liverpool fans like you all that disgust me to no end. Enjoy your Europa League campaign for the next decade or so.

they should have been down to 9 men they are the most dirtiest team in the premier league and they will never win another trophy they cant stand knowing that because they are so bad at football its unreal we handed it to them at old trafford its a different story they get ripped apart

  21. joey on March 7th, 2011 5:59 am

who wants to play for a club were your own fans will be robbing your house whilst playing a football match. absolute scrote town

  22. Mancunian-Red on March 7th, 2011 6:33 am

I think the comments above are truly shambolic. People make comparisons that United fans never go on about how nasty about incidents such as Eduardo or Ramsey.
Firstly we would never boo a player who has been stretchered of the pitch. That animalistic behaviour is simply unacceptable. A similar situation of mockery was made when Alan Smith unfortunately broke his leg, and the Liverpool fans felt it appropriate to chant and jeer. It’s a level of such lowless I am lost for words.
I am not here to rant and argue the toss, but I think if Sir Stevie was to be the victim of a Vidic tackle which left a gash in his leg, then his tears would be seen to be acceptable as he bleeds LFC.
The picture is real, and as for the comment regarding shinpads, I think anybody who claims to follow football should know that it is against the rules of the game to play without them. I know because I wear similar shin pads to nani, and due to Carragher pushing his studs down Nani’s leg this would merely move the shinpad thus still causing the damage. I think it is wrong to blame Nani for his kit for Carragher’s shoddy tackle.
I think it is childish to imply that a man shouldn’t cry. We have seen the likes of Ronaldo, Gerrard, Terry etc all shed tears due to emotion. When Nani sees the damage caused, his initial thought is likely to be that his season is over. Now for a player who has been improving so drastically, this is an unwelcome setback. It shows the passion he plays with that he would be emotional about being out of the team, as he just wants to help the club win trophies.
This brings me onto my final point about the running up to the referee. Whilst people say this means he isnt hurt etc etc, I can only imagine people have never had such an injury. The human body produces adrenaline, and this numbs the pain and acts as a booster. This would be why Nani would be filled with energy to run up to the referee and express his concern, and then when the adrenaline runs out the real pain comes, and this would be why he fell to the ground as he would have felt it moreso stood up with pressure and tension of the muscles around the wound.
The fact that the Liverpool players can see the damage done, and in particular Gerrard almot pushing Nani on his way to the ground shows a complete lack of professionalism. I think it’s a real shame that the situation went that way and I feel the referee had no control over the game at that point.
It will be interesting to see how the media reacts, and I wish Nani a speedy recovery as he has been our most influential player this season.
To all the scornful Liverpool fans, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I am United through and through but would never aim malice at a professional who has been injured, and always offer applause to players stretchered off at Old Trafford. You need to grow up and realise that it was a bad challenge and at least do the right thing (as even Carragher did) to at least wish Nani the best in his recovery

everyone’s missing the point here…there is no debate…I’m a LFC fan….Carragher should have been sent off, Rafael should have been sent off…these are the rules of the game….Carragher is a rough player, not a dirty one but LFC fans will defend him the way other teams fans will defend their idols who make similar tackles…that’s the way football is…jibing at other fans and other players is also part of the game…it’s all hypocritical, of course it is, but it’s also instantly forgettable….everybody, including Nani needs to grow up…..that was a fantastic football match….that’s were it should start and end….

  30. susan on March 7th, 2011 10:28 am

i totally utterly 100% agree with Paul’s letter.. i too am a liverpool fan..both carra and rafael should have gotten the red card but at the end of the day they got yellows from the ref so deal with it.. many a player from all teams especially man utd go in for rough tackles and stay on the pitch and i have seen many instances where one of my own gets tackled bad and nothing is done.. it’s such a pity ye are blowing it out of proportion just because the shoe is on the other foot and ye dont like it.. joey the only reason i am here is because i was shown the pic of nani which by the way is not all that bad so stop whinging ye are an embarrassment plus all of your comments are very very cruel and immature .. i agree that carra is a rough old school player not a dirty one or a cheat maybe look at your own players before passing judgement.. no player is perfect yeah it was reckless but it wasnt that bad a tackle in fairness and sure i would b afraid to even touch nani’s skin in case it burns off he needs to grow up and play with the big boys.. at the end of the day liverpool were better and deserved the points .. kuyt worked hard and truly deserived every inch of praise.. suarez showed the playing class that wayne rooney can only dream of.. dont b haters just accept it for what it was , a great game.

  31. Elliot on March 7th, 2011 11:04 am

    dear G Neville,
This, ‘look at the tears u shed at Hillsborough n Heysel LMAO’, is not acceptable, nor does it have anything to with what happened on Sunday. The difference is, people died, i’m sure a few did get gashes on their legs, but people died. Crying over deaths is different to crying over cuts. Death is the end, you can’t come back, you can’t heal that kind of pain, it never goes away. Yes Nani may be out for a while, but it’s not a career ending injury, the layer on skin on that part of the leg is quite thin and easy to tear, it will heal, he can come back from it, he’s not dead. You should be ashamed of that comment, and you really need to gain respect for the dead.

  32. Yugoslee on March 7th, 2011 11:20 am

It’s a pity that football fans of this modern era can expess such hatred in the name of the game. I wonder why anybody should be happy that a player was carried off because of injury, worse still when such injury and the emotion that followed at that time made him cry, we all have seen great and even far old players cry over losses (penalty kicks, etc) in the game and Nani’s shouldnt have been a surprise given his commitment and expression of the game. Those calling Nani names over this ( Scouser Tone, lushesturk,f24Utd,graeme,matttttttt,lfc forrrr liifee,Carra,WE win, etc) should see a psychologist for a cure, they aren’t different from Osama Bin Laden and the perpetrators of 9/11 attack.

And for Scouser Tone, am sorry for the kids who may be looking up to you. You cant even spell a simple word correctly, and am sure you are a ‘first grade ignorant fool’.

Cheers to you Mancunian-Red, u are a genius for capturing the situation with such analytic expertise and gramatic prowess, more greese to your elbow.

  33. Spike on March 7th, 2011 3:39 pm

Its about time that cheating, diving, over exagurating, crap United scum Nani got taken down. I hope hes out for the rest of the season. I bet you tho he’ll be in the next match. Its the same with most United players too. All cheats, cant win without cheating and diving. Rooney should be banned and finned for what he did against Wigan. Well done Liverpool for putting United where they should be and well done JC for taking Nani out.

  34. Real World on March 7th, 2011 3:45 pm

Sports creating division and not unity….fans taking jabs at each other trying to piss each other off, what’s the point? This is why the world is where it’s at today, negativity only creates violence. Snap back into reality for a second and heed to these words of advice…the things you say and do can come back and haunt you, so I suggest you all show love and be careful what you say.

  35. ron on March 7th, 2011 7:02 pm

idiots it obviously was a red card if he went in spikes up thats the end of the story the proof is in the cut that shows he was hit by Carra’s spikes. whenever a player goes into a tackle spikes up and gets the player its an automatic red.

  36. YNWA10 on March 7th, 2011 8:43 pm

The reason why most Liverpool fans (as well as some Manchester United fans) are angry with Nani and laughing at him despite his cut in his shin is because they believe his theatrics is unacceptable. In fact, given his track record, I am also inclined to believe that he was exaggerating it.

In the end, only Nani would know why he did what he did and why he cried. It is not the fact that he cried but the reason behind why he cried that matters. If it was because he feared for his season, there’s nothing wrong with that. However I honestly doubt it. In my mind, it is because he wanted to make it worse than it seems and get a player sent off.

Carra probably deserved a red card but Manchester lost any moral high ground with Nani’s theatrics (if it really was theatrics) and Rafael’s tackle (whose intent was much worse, even if Lucas wasn’t injured).

Holy smokes! What is the average age on here? Many of you are acting like angry 15 year olds, grow up for crying out loud!

Sadly it is what happens when studs scratch against a hard surface such as your shin, it is NOT serious but would have hurt a lot, even a small kick on your shin tends to hurt! The way Nani reacted was pathetic though, he shamed UTD, she shamed the PL and he shamed footballed not to mention himself.

It was a bad tackle by Carra but he certainly didn’t do it on purpose, lets face it he isn’t the fastest in the world whilst Nani is very fast.

To be fair this shin scratch (which it is!) shows you that footballers should wear proper shin pads.

My gosh. Kids nowadays. Its all over. I’m sure if it wasn’t real, he would have stayed on cos it was an important match. But I’m pretty sure I didn’t see any tears. Well, we wouldn’t know anything. Only Nani’s return date would tell us the true story. So stop fighting over this nonsense.

    As for G Neville:
Watch your mouth you fucking cunt. You didn’t see anyone talking about the Munich Air Disaster did you? Get a life. Its people like you that make Liverpool fans hate Man Utd fans.

I’m a Liverpool fan, die hard at that, but I respect certain Man Utd fans and I am not in any place to judge professional players. Same goes to you guys.

All the best to Nani in his recovery.

  44. Red Baron on March 8th, 2011 7:21 am

As for the rest of the crap comments…you may have won the game…fair enough! but we’re closer to a 19th title than you are to 4th spot! That must hurt much more than Nani’s shin!

  45. Luis Nani on March 8th, 2011 8:41 am

On behalf of all sane people yet to comment Carragher’s challenge should have ended in a red card, despite what you morons say about him being a crybaby. It doesn’t matter if there’s “just a scratch” a dangerous challenge as it was should always end in dismissal in modern football. Maxi Rodrigues was also lucky not to be sent off after his little dig at Rafael, resulting in a retaliation which could have also ended in a red. It’s a shame that on big occasions such as a local derby the referee lets such behaviour go unpunished and we have to listen to petty arguments amongst fans debating irrelevant issues. On the day Liverpool outplayed United, and Kuyt proved what a quality player he is. Such a pity for him that the game was littered with juvenile aggression which shouldn’t be a part of the game.

  46. Lfc fan on March 8th, 2011 8:57 am

  47. kazza on March 8th, 2011 11:43 am

Fuk all u scousers, carragher went in two footed, both feet off the ground, that’s a red card. Nani was not crying for nothing because there is a fukin whole in his leg. How would you like it if someone went down your leg with their studs and cut you open? I would laugh, i’d laugh so fukin much and call you a weener coz you’re all tossers who got no idea what a dangerous tackle is. You beat us, fair dos, but we’ve beaten you once already this season and we’ll do it again. We are going to win the premier league and scouser diks are gonna get nothing. Especially if they keep going in for appalling challenges and then telling the poor guy to get up. I hope someone breaks carraghers leg and has a go at him.

Roy Keane never got away with anything hence the amount of red cards he received over his career, he always got sent off – so nice argument there.

PEople have some sense, show some inteligence. THis was not a kid crying bcuz of pain, was a grown man who was brought up in the “guettos” being desperate with the seriousness of his injury it could have ended his career, luckily and aparently was nothing so serious but he was crying out of rage and worryness, and thats not so hard to imagine, if u just put ur thoughts into it.

Plus he was trying to show his damage so the referee would make some justice, was not pretending to be hurt.

  57. scouse helen on March 20th, 2011 6:16 pm

Nani can afford to buy proper shin pads on the wages he gets. He got a cut leg in the area where shin pads should provide protection. He never broke his leg, it needed a few stitches. How many times do we see players go off to have stitches and return to the pitch minutes later? They do not cry, or run 20yds to try to influence the ref then drop in a heap. His tears may be from frustration that he stuffed up and helped us get our 2nd goal and was not able to push the ref in to sending Carragher off.
Few comments about Rooneys elbow incident seem to be coming from man u supporters tho. Oh, thats right, you all think the rules are different for you!
