Pre-Season Friendly

Fergie and his double winning champions will take on hosts Aberdeen in a pre-season friendly to mark the 25th anniversary of the Scottish team’s Cup-Winners’ Cup triumph. Fergie enjoyed illustrious seven years at the club, during which the club won three league championships, four Scottish Cups, the European Cup Winner’s Cup, the European Super Cup and a League Cup. Till date, this is the only achievement on continental level by Aberdeen.

It is a sweet co-incidence that United visit them as European Champions, which will only add to the festive mood of the occasion. Aberdeen confirmed the match back in March, long before United’s historic victory in Moscow. This will be United’s first match after becoming European Champions.

In addition of sharing great football culture, history, and of course Alex Ferguson himself, many big-name footballers have played for both these clubs, Gordon Strachan and Jim Leighton to name a few. Denis Law supported Aberdeen as a boy, although he never played for the Dons.
