Official: Arsenal confirm sale of captain Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona

Arsenal’s official website today confirmed the sale of their second skipper (let’s not forget Thierry Henry) to Barcelona in the following manner:

“Arsenal announces today that they have reached an agreement in principle with Barcelona for Cesc Fabregas to move to Spain.”

Wenger kept no secret of the fact that he is not happy with the move and it is Fabregas’ own wish to move back to Spain:

“We have been clear that we didn’t want Cesc to leave and that remains the case. However, we understand Cesc’s desire to move to his home town club and have now accepted an offer from Barcelona. We thank Cesc for his contribution at Arsenal and wish him future success.”

He always wanted to move to Barcelona, and Arsenal’s 6 year trophyless run didn’t help their case either. So today after many months of speculation and rumours, the inevitable finally seems to be on the brink of realization. The Arsenal skipper will be moving to Barcelona after a deal worth £35.1m was reached between the two clubs. The Spanish media has already unveiled multiple edited pictures of Fabregas wearing the new Qatar Foundation Barcelona jersey.
