Six Treble winners return to Old Trafford…

Six of United’s 1999 Treble winnnig heroes return to Old Trafford to take part in a charity event organised by Manchester United Foundation and Sport Relief. The event named ‘United Relief Live: The Big Red Family Day Out’ features musical and dance performances by famous artists, followed by a football match between Manchester United XI and The Rivals. The later will consist of former players including Des Walker, Ian Rush, Peter Beardsley and John Barnes as well as celebrities including Tim Lovejoy and Jason Manford. Manchester United XI is set to include Treble winners Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Denis Irwin, Jaap Stam, Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole and Ronny Johnsen playing alongside a host of celebrities including Ronan Keating.

Two more awards for Rooney means he’s everyone’s favourite

After winning Players’ Player of the Year award few days back, Rooney has completed an awards treble by winning two more accolades: Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year and Premier League’s fans Player of the Season.

Rooney finished ahead of Didier Drogba and Carlos Tevez in the journalists poll to scoop the prize. He will be presented his award at the FWA’s gala dinner at The Lancaster London Hotel on May 13.

Forbes: ManUtd no longer the most valuable sporting brand

Last week Forbes magazine named United as the richest football club of the World, but in terms of brand value, United are no longer on top. Baseball team New York Yankees have become the most valuable team brand of the World. United held this title for last two years. Brand value is defined as the portion of the team’s overall value that is not attributable to market demographics and league.
